FIFA release shortlist for Best Men's Player award Neymar misses out

World football governing body has released the shortlist of players for this years 'The Best Awards' in both the men and women categories.

They were very few surprises as the expected names were among those listed. but there was one very notable name absent: Neymar.

The Brazilian and PSG forward who endured a very miserable world cup campaign did not make the list despite a somewhat impressive campaign with his club side before his campaign ended with an injury.

Ronaldo who won the previous edition faces a very tough competition for the award following standout performances in Russia. Ronaldo major competition while he was in La Liga, Lionel Messi also got a nomination after enjoying a breathtaking campaign with Barcelona and finishing as La Liga and Europe top scorer.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah got a nod (despite Egypt not making out of the group stage in Russia) due to an outstanding 44 goals he scored in the previous campaign with his club.

Not left out were world cup stars, Kylian Mbappe, Luka Modric, Antoine Griezmann, Belgian Duo Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bryune and French defender Raphael Varane.
