Suicide bomber kills 8 in Borno mosque attack

A suicide bomber on Monday attacked a mosque in the Mainari area of Konduga, in Borno state, northeast Ngeria.

The explosion killed eight people. Ibrahim Liman, a member of the civilian militia force assisting the military in the fight against Boko Haram told AFP news agency the blast happened at the early hours of Monday.

He said, "The male bomber walked into the mosque at about 5:15 am (0415 GMT) while prayers were on and exploded, killing eight worshipers and injuring five others".

"Seven of the victims died in the mosque while another died on the way to (the Borno state capital) Maiduguri."

Liman added that the attack appeared to have been executed by a man in his early 20s.

Umar Goni, who helped in rescuing victims of the civilian force said he was on his was to the mosque when the blast occurred.

"We pulled out seven dead bodies and six injured worshipers. One of the six injured died on the way to hospital," Goni said, also adding: "There was no way anybody could have known his mission."
