Nine arrested for corruption in building of new Roma Stadium

Nine people have been arrested for alleged corruption into the building of the new Roma stadium.

A prosecutor has confirmed no one from the club was involved in the investigation. Among those arrested was the stadium's main constructor Luca Parnassi - along with six of his colleagues.

Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi said: "Those that have erred will pay we support legality."

The stadium was first presented by Roma's president James Pallotta in March 2014 when he announced it would be ready for the 2016-17 season.

However, delays to the project, which include a training centre, an entertainment complex and extensive transportation works, occurred due to environmental concerns and criticism over public finding.

Roma made it to the Champions League semi-final last season losing out to Liverpool 7-6 on aggregate.
