Kyle Edmund wins while Cameron Norrie's French Open comes to an end

Kyle Edmund set up a tantalising encounter with flamboyant Italian Fabio Fognini at the French Open after seeing off Marton Fucsovics in round two.

The British No 1 has reached the third round at Roland Garros for the first time as he secured a 6-0 1-6 6-2 6-3 victory against Fucsovics.

Edmund picked up where he left off in his win over Alex de Minaur on Tuesday and needed just 27 minutes to wrap up the opening set 6-0.

Hungarian Fucsovics, ranked 45, arrived in Paris off the back of his first ATP Tour title in Geneva last week and stepped up his game in the next set.

It proved to be almost a complete reversal of the opener, with Fucsovics winning the first five games and then the set 6-1.

Edmund called for the trainer to have his right hand assessed and at least avoided a love set before Fucsovics levelled proceedings.

The back and forth nature of the contest continued at the start of the third set, with Edmund's hand issue apparently resolved, he looked comfortable again and began to find a rhythm on his serve.

He did not face a break point as he won the first three games before breaking Fucsovics again in the final game to seal the set.

The fourth set was the first that was seriously contested until 23-year-old Edmund took his chance in the eighth game to lead 5-3 and successfully serve out a fine win.

He will next play Fabio Fognini, ranked 18 in the world, for a place in the last 16 after the Italian swept past Elias Ymer of Sweden 6-4 6-1 6-2.

Elsewhere, Cameron Norrie's run in Paris came to an end against Frenchman Lucas Pouille on Court Philippe Chatrier.

The British No 3 earned a stay of execution on Wednesday evening when he pinched the third set, ensuring the match would have to continue into Thursday.

French No 1 Pouille served for the match at 6-5, only for Norrie to hit back and force a tie-break.

But Pouille held his nerve, while Norrie was penalised for brushing the net with his foot at 3-5, and the 16th seed completing the 6-2 6-4 5-7 7-6 (7-3) win.
