US Pres. Trump snubs White House correspondents dinner for second consecutive year

For the second year in a row, US president Donald Trump, who has regularly clashed with media organisations and personalities, will not be attending the annual White House Correspondents' Association black-tie dinner, which celebrates the First amendment of the United State constitution.

Mr. Trump became the first US president to not attend the annual event in 36 years after he snubbed the the dinner alongside majority of the officials in his administration.

President of the White House Correspondents' Association, Margaret Talev, a correspondent for Bloomberg made the announcement on Friday. She said, "The White House has informed us that the president does not plan to participate in this year's dinner but that he will actively encourage members of the executive branch to attend and join us as we celebrate the First Amendment," adding that White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders would represent the Trump administration at the April 28 dinner.

Trump, who had previously attended the dinner before becoming president, in an interview with New York radio station 77 WABC aired on Friday said he probably would not be attending this year's event despite pledging to "absolutely" attend after skipping out it last year.
