Fire 'kills five' in displaced persons' camp in Nigeria

A fire outbreak in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Northern Nigeria has resulted in the death of five people. The IDP camp which is situated in the town of Rann, near Nigeria's border with Cameroon houses around 55,000 people displaced from their home and community by Boko Haram violence which has ravaged the country for years now.
A military officer who spoke to AFP news agency, said the fire incident which happened on Monday, destroyed dozens of livestock and 200 makeshift tents were destroyed.
A civilian guard assisting the military, Kaka Ari, told AFP: "The fire started in the morning while residents of the camp were making breakfast in the open and the morning breeze carried some splinters to the shelters."
