Reports by a US media says former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle are in talks with streaming site, Netflix to produce exclusive content for shows aimed on uplifting viewers with its stories. 

According to the New Yorl Times, the deal, if true, would give a global platform for the Obamas, bypassing mainstream US media such as Fox News.

Speaking to the BBC about the report, Netflix said it had no comment and while a senior adviser to the former president, Eric Schultz said it would make sense, he did not confirm if any such plan was in the works.

Schultz told the New York Times, "President and Mrs Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire."

"Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories."

The said one possible show idea was for president Obama to moderate debates on issues such as health care, climate change and immigration- all of which dominated his eight years in the White House but insisted that it's purpose is not to attack conservative critics or Donald Trump through the show.

How much the Obamas will make from the deal if agreed is unclear but Obama already has a huge audience he connects with directly through his social media accounts, with more than 100 million followers on twitter and his Facebook page has been liked by 55 million users.
