Eight arrested in Belgium anti-terror raids

A counter-terror raid in Brussels on Sunday, has resulted in the arrest of eight people. The raid which is a part of an investigation in an alleged plot, took place in Molenbeek, an immigrant district linked to the Paris and Brussels terror attacks, a source told AFP.

The source said, the eight people arrested were brought before a judge investigating an alleged terror plot for questioning as investigators suspected that an attack was in preparation, but gave no other details.

Later on Monday, the judge will decide whether to formally charge them and if the suspects should be released or continue being detained.

Molenbeek, the area where the raid happened, is known to be home to several members of the terrorist cell which executed the November 13, 2015 attacks on Paris and the March 2016 suicide bombings in Brussels. There were also raids in Geraardsbergen and Mechelen, areas of Belgium where which are the Dutch language is spoken.
