Boko Haram: Four UN Aid Workers Killed, One Abducted In Borno By Insurgents

At least 4 UN aid workers and have been killed in Kala Balge Local Government of Borno State, following an attack by Boko Haram insurgents on Thursday night. A female aid worker is also missing while another was injured in the attack.

Head of Communications, UNICEF Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Samantha Newport confirmed the incident which took place at Rann community, on Friday in Maiduguri.

She said those killed included two personnel of UN client organisation, International Organisation of Migration ( IOM), who were as camp managers deployed in Rann, a medical doctor working as consultant with UNICEF and an aid worker with International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) affiliate organisation.

Newport added that the female abducted during the attack worked as a nurse in the camp. The explained that the dead personnel were Nigerians.

The UNICEF communications head said a statement will be issued soon by the world body. 

According to News Agency of Nigeria, a trusted source in Rann said the insurgents attacked the town at about 7pm (local time) on Thursday adding that they had also attacked a military base. Military authorities have not commented on the incident.
