NDLEA Parades Suspects Caught With Heroin Worth N50 Million

Two suspects have been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for possession of hard drugs at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano State. The drugs are estimated to be worth N50 million.

The NDLEA commandant at the airport, Mr. Ambrose Umoru, while parading the suspects said operatives of the command during a routine inward screening of passengers on board Ethiopian Airline, flight number ET 941, caught  them with substances suspected to be narcotic drugs. Umoru added that one of the suspects, 49 year old Nweke Emmanuel, an indigene of  Ire in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, ingested 2.180kg of heroin, making it the largest recent times.

The commandant said: "Emmanuel was a businessman and barber, who is based in Kinshasha, Democratic Republic of Congo. The suspect travelled to Bujumbura, Burundi, where he ingested a total of 127 wraps of heroin."

"Emmanuel transited Addis Ababa to Kano and was to board a night luxury bus to Onitsha, where he was expected to excrete the substance when the operatives of the NDLEA Airport Command, Kano, promptly arrested him on arrival."

"The second suspect, Gloria Dumebi, 32, from Ibusa in the Oshimili Local Government area of Delta State, who is a hair stylist, was arrested on the same flight, with 3Kg whitish powdery substance, suspected to be cocaine. The woman concealed the packaged substance in a large brown traveling bag in order to convey it to Nigeria before she was arrested by the operatives."
