Online Petition Calls For a Rollback on Snapchat's Latest Update

A petition asking Snapchat to roll back it s latest update has garnered over one million signatories. The petition which on the change.org website, is one of several appeals to Snapchat to revert to bring back its previous version of the popular social media app.

The petition was initiated by Nic Rumsey. He said the update on the app has forced some to use Virtual Private Network (VPN) apps to gain access to the older version of the platform. "That's how annoying this update has become," he added.

The changes made by Snapchat had been intended to separate chats with friends from interactions from branded content that includes that of celebrities and influencers.

Evan Spiegel, Snapchat's founder in a blog post wrote that fake news being propagated was on the increase and separating the two was an effort to combat that trend.

But Snapchat users are saying the new layout is difficult to use. Model and wife of US singer, John Legend, Chrissie Teigen tweeted that she didn't like feeling that her followers no longer felt like friends as a result.

"How many people have to hate an update for it to be reconsidered?" she asked.

Snapchat its statement about the development said that new updates usually "can take a little getting used to".

"We hope the community will enjoy it once they settle in," the firm said.
