Delta air plane's engine engulfed in flame mid-air

 Less than a week after the emergency door of a Dana airplane fell off on landing, in Nigeria, another aircraft is reported to have caught fire mid air in-flight.

The engine of the Delta airplane caught fire shortly after leaving the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, bound for Atlanta, in the early hours of  Wednesday. The pilot of the Delta Air flight DL055 (ATL)ETG on noticing the fire, contacted the control tower to make preparation for an emergency landing. Firefighters and all other emergency personnel were quickly scrambled together and after successfully landing the aircraft, the passengers were quickly evacuated through the emergency door.

Several of its crew and passenger were taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Ikeja, Air Force Base Clinic and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Medical Centre for immediate medical attention. No death was recorded at the time of reporting.

The incident resulted in the closure of the runway as other airlines already prepared for take off, could not as the Delta Aircraft was on the Runway for over 1hour. The aircraft was later towed to the open parking bay close to Boarding gate E63.

The other passengers were taken to an hotel while their flight was rescheduled for a later date not yet announced.
