Underdogs Eagles Win Super Bowl 52

On a night that saw records broken and the expected norms of an NFL game thrown away, the Philadelphia Eagles delivered an equally inspiring performance by outclassing favourites, the New England Patriots on Sunday to win their first ever Super Bowl title.

The Eagles, led by quarterback Nick Foles, were underdogs throughout the NFL playoffs, and few lovers of the game expected them to beat the defending Super Bowl champions led by star quarterback Tom Brady. Philadelphia, rode on their underdog status with some players wearing dog masks throughout the playoffs, to produce a brilliant offensive display that ensured the Patriots' hope for record-equalling sixth Super Bowl crown was squashed.

One unforgettable highlight of the game was when Foles caught a pass from tight end Trey Burton on a trick play on fourth-and-goal, making him the first player ever to throw and catch a touchdown in Super Bowl history.

The Eagles, who finished last in their division last year, started the post-season with a major setback following an injury to Carson Wentz in December, but the game's "most valuable player" Nick Foles took on the mantle, shining bright on the game's biggest stage. Foles, after an underwhelming 2015 season with the St Louis Rams and almost retired, was composed in his first Super Bowl, and matching Patriots' Tom Brady, a five-time Super Bowl champion. He will definitely be grateful for not retiring.

Tom Brady, whose 505 yards pass- a new Super Bowl record - and three touchdown passes, will be left fuming he failed to get a sixth Super Bowl ring.

The victory sent the eagles supporters, all dressed in green, into wild celebration after brazing the chiily weather in Minneapolis to watch the game with the field covered in silver and green confetti.

With the clock counting down, Zach Ertz's touchdown put the Eagles into a five-point lead, the Eagles had to endured a late charge downfield by Brady, but victory was  sealed when an gutsy attempt came to nothing. The Eagles and Patriots together covered 1,151 yards in total, a record for any game in NFL history.

Eagles tight end Zach Ertz, who caught what proved to be the game-winning touchdown said "We've been doubted since Day One. This team, no one picked us. We come out here and we're World Champions."

"I felt calm, we felt confident coming in and we just went out there and played football" said Most Valuable Player Nick Foles after throwing three touchdowns.

The Eagles won three championships in the pre-Super Bowl era and lost in their previous two Super Bowl appearances (to the Patriots in 2005).
