Fidel Castro's son commits suicide.

Fidel Ángel Castro Díaz-Balart has died in Havana from suicide having suffered from depression, Cuban state media reports. The 68-year-old son of Cuba's former leader Fidel Castro was found on Thursday morning.

State media report says he had been receiving medical treatment from a group of doctors as an outpatient in recent months due to deep depression. He was a scientific adviser for the Cuban Council of State and served as vice president of Cuba's Academy of Sciences, having been trained as a nuclear physicist, trained by the former Soviet Union.

Castro Díaz-Balart, first-born son of the late president, was born during his father's brief first marriage to Mirta Díaz-Balart, the daughter of a prominent pre-revolution politician. He was nicknamed "Fidelito" (Little Fidel) because of his uncanny resemblance with his father. His cousin Mario Díaz-Balart is a US congressman.

According to television announcement, his funeral would be planned by his family. No further details were given.
