After state visits to South Korea and China, U.S. President Donald Trump has disclosed that he is aiming to bring an end to trade abuses against the U.S. by making America come first in future trade deals, stating that the United States would not be taken advantage of going forward.

Trump told the audience of Asia-Pacific leaders in the coastal city of Da Nang it was time to put "America first", adding the US won't be "taken advantage of anymore".

"We can no longer tolerate these chronic trade abuses, and we will not tolerate them. From this day forward, we will compete on a fair and equal basis," said Trump. "I am always going to put America first, the same way that I expect all of you in this room to put your countries first."

The US president denounced the "audacious theft of intellectual property" and "destructive practices of forcing businesses to surrender their technology to the state". He pledged to work with individual countries in a mutually beneficial economic relationship.

"We seek friendship, and we don't dream of domination," he said.

President Trump also disclosed that he wants to deal with strong and prosperous nations in the region. "I call it the Indo-Pacific dream. If it's going to be realised, we must ensure that all play by the rules, which they do not right now."
