Midfielder Jesse Lingard scored a brace during the game to help the Manchester club secure all three points and progress to the next phase of the competition.

Jose Mourinho who was full of criticism for his United side after the league loss to Huddersfield on Saturday was certainly pleased after the club booked their spot in the fifth round of the Carabao cup.

Mourinho told Sky Sports: "Since the first minute we felt we were in the game. We had immediately a couple of corners, we were pressing high, we were comfortable on the pitch. The attitude was good.

"We were solid and we were in control. The attitude was very good. I'm really happy and it was quite comfortable. A good day for us."

Lingard, who scored either side of half-time, said the players had been keen to bounce back after what happened at Huddersfield.

He said: "Since the weekend we have been working hard on the training pitch and we had to put things right.

"I think we've learned from it. We'll move on and concentrate on the next game."
