- Police were engaged in a firefight with gunmen who accompanied the suicide bombers.

- Area remains sealed off as the Police try to eliminate the terrorists.
A firefight took place in the early hours of Tuesday after some gunmen and suicide bombers attacked a Police training facility in Afghanistan.

The suicide bombing attack has left at least 25 people killed and dozens more injured.

"At first a suicide bomber detonated a car filled with explosives near the training centre, making way for a number of attackers to start their assault" in Gardez, capital of Paktia province, the interior ministry said in a statement. 

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

At least 15 people were killed and more than 40 wounded. Victims included "women, students and police", Hedayatullah Hamidi, public health director in Gardez, told AFP news agency. 

"At the moment the area is sealed by the crisis response unit and efforts are ongoing to eliminate the terrorists," the interior ministry statement added.
