After attempts by Spanish Police to block a Catalonian independence referendum turned violent, FC Barcelona have stopped work and announced that they would be joining a strike in protest against the ongoing violence.

The Football Club had previously received calls for their last La Liga match against Las Palmas on Sunday to be postponed because of the political climate but the tie went ahead and was played behind closed doors

"FC Barcelona joins the country wide strike called for by Table for Democracy and therefore the Club will be closed tomorrow," the club said.

"None of the professional teams or the youth teams at FC Barcelona will train tomorrow at the Ciutat Esportiva."

Although the senior team is currently on international break, the academy and second team will also not train due to the strike.
