- Defending the Premier League title is more challenging than Italian Serie A.
- Chelsea suffered a second league defeat of the season after a 1-0 defeat by Man City on Saturday.
Chelsea Football Club Manager Antonio Conte has confessed that winning the English Premier League back to back is far more difficult than the Italian Serie A.
Conte made this disclosure after
seeing his side suffer a 1-0 defeat in the hands of Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday.
Conte who won the Premier League in his first season on charge at Chelsea noted that this is a completely different context from when he led Juventus to lift the Italian League title back to back. He noted that in his second title winning season at Juventus, main rivals AC Millan had sold key players off and were much weaker.
"It was completely different," he said of his experience in Italy. "Juventus won the title against a really strong team like AC Milan [in 2011-12] but then the next summer they sold Thiago Silva and [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic [to Paris Saint-Germain]. They were weaker. It was not simple but easier [to win it again]. Here if you compare last season to this season, you can see the big teams have got bigger.
"Last season was a great satisfaction because don't forget the year before we finished 10th and then we won the title and reached the FA Cup final. Last season was fantastic. This season we have to try to do our best and have great satisfaction. It won't be easy but last season wasn't easy either."
