Malaysia has on Thursday imposed a temporary ban on all travel to North Korea for its citizens until further notice as a result of the ongoing tensions in the country mounting from their missile and nuclear development.

For a long time, Malaysia was considered as one of North Korea's allies but their relationship was strained after the murder of Kim Jong Un's half brother at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The Malaysian authorities have however vowed to review the travel ban once things settle in North Korea and the situation returns to normal.

Malaysia's soccer team is scheduled to face North Korea in an Asian Cup tie in Pyongyang on Oct. 5, a match that been delayed twice due to security fears. It is not currently clear whether they will be affected by this travel ban.
