Manchester United defeated Basel by 3-0 in their Champions League opener

From kickoff to the closing stages of the game, Man Utd were always in control of the game and never really looked like they were in trouble.

The only negative that can be drawn from this game is the possibly hamstring injury suffered by midfielder Paul Pogba in the first twenty minutes of the game.

Pogba signalled the bench for a replacement as soon as he felt the pain immediately after a tackle on a Basel player.

Jose Mourinho would take solace in the fact that Fellaini who came on to replace Pogba went on to score the much needed opening goal which helped the team go on to win the match and also produced an outstanding performance.

Ashley Young, Matic, Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Blind and Lindelof all starred on a night where they needed to and United can now travel to CSKA Moscow with the vital confidence boost needed to stay top of the group.

United put out a dominant, confident and collective performance and although Basel may not be as strong as some other teams in Europe, United put out a performance that is typical of any high flying European side.
