Tottenham Hotspurs have completed the signing of 24 year old Ivorian International Serge Aurier for £23 million from Paris Saint-Germain.

The defender signed a five year contract that should keep him in London until 2022.

Tottenham have beat off competition from local rivals United and Chelsea to secure the player's signature.

Although the deal was initially delayed due to work permit issues, it was able to move swiftly when French courts downgraded his assault case thereby allowing him to apply for a normal work permit with the Home office in the UK.

"This is a huge and exciting opportunity at a massive football club and I am determined to prove myself as a professional both on and off the pitch," he told Spurs' official website.

"This is a fresh start for me and I will do everything to make the Spurs fan base, which is huge and diverse, proud of me. The fans are the most important people at any club and I am looking forward to showing them and everyone at Spurs the real Serge Aurier."

A message on PSG's website read: "Paris Saint-Germain thanks Serge for the fighting spirit he always showed in the red-and-blue shirt and wishes him all the very best for the new challenges that await him at his new club in London."
