JAMB explains cut off marks reduction decision

In response to all the recent wave of criticism that have been targetted at JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched a defence over his agency's decion to reduce the cut off marks for admission into universities to 120.
Prof. Oloyede explained that this decision was only set as a recommendation and that Universities were at liberty to set higher scores for their programmes.
He said: "With this decision, universities are not to go below the minimum 120 cut-off points adopted by the meeting for admissions.
"What JAMB did was a recommendation, we only determined the minimum, whatever the various institutions determine as their admission cut-off mark is their decisions. The Senate and academic boards of universities should be allowed to determine their cut-off marks."
