- England Legend Wayne Rooney Announces Retirement from International football.

- Leaves an amazing record behind that's hard to beat.

After scoring 53 goals in 119 games for England, Legend and Captain Wayne Rooney retires from international football.

The Striker disclosed this in a phone conversation to Garreth Southgate and also in a statement sent to the Press Association Sports.

He said "Having already thought long and hard, I told Gareth that I had now decided to retire for good from international football,

"One of my very few regrets is not to have been part of a successful England tournament side.

"Hopefully the exciting players Gareth is bringing through can take that ambition further and I hope everyone will get behind the team. One day the dream will come true and I look forward to being there as a fan – or in any capacity."

Although this news will come as a surprise to many who will undoubtedly miss him, it's also an opportunity for the upcoming stars such as Rashford to fully come through the ranks and shine.
