In an act that may be considered by many as somewhat desperate, Chelsea FC have intensified their efforts to sign Southampton's Defender Van Dijk to sooth their short and long term defensive problems. With Cahill currently suspended, the North London club's defensive options at least for the next few games. 

However, it also shows how limited the Chelsea Squad really is and unless they can resolve this soon by signing Virgil van Dijk, they might be out of contention for this year's league title before it even starts.

Antonio Conte's Chelsea are reportedly lining up a £50m move for Van Dijk to bring the dutchman to London and it is hoped that this deal should go through in the next few days.
