Obasanjo blasts senate over minimum age restriction for future presidents.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has voiced his displeasure over the recent constitutional amendment by the senate to reduce the age limit for future presidents from 40-35. He is of the opinion that more emphasis should be placed on the competence of individuals rather than their age. The outspoken former president further added that if the senate saw it right to place a minimum age, there should also be a maximum limit.
Obiaks News also gathered that the former president is of the opinion that limits like this can act as barriers and impediments to the effectiveness of future presidents of Nigeria.
in his words, "Let the people decide, to me, there should be no age limit. Gen. Gowon (retd.) became the Head of State at the age of 33, I became the Head of State at 39".
Whether the we will see a u-turn on this amendment, only time will tell.
