Reps task IGP on kidnapped Lagos students' rescue

The Lagos State Police Command yesterday said the freed kidnapped students of Lagos Model College, Igbonla, near Epe have been reunited with their families.
The two students, a teacher and the vice principal of the college regained their freedom on Wednesday morning.
They were kidnapped along with two others who later escaped a week ago at about 8am while the pupils were on their assembly ground.
The command Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the release of the pupils, said they have been reunited with their parents.
Asked if the suspects have been arrested, Dolapo said: "I am sure that you know that all kidnap suspects that operated in this state have always been arrested and this one would not be an exception. We must arrest them soon."
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to convene a security summit to fashion out an effective response to the kidnapping phenomenon in the country.
The summit, the House said, should include all security agencies, all GSM service providers, the House Committees on National Intelligence, Army, Air Force, Navy, Police and Communication.
The call followed a motion on matters of urgent national importance, titled: "Need for the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on kidnapping in the country." It was moved by Hon. Babatunde Gabriel Kolawole.
Leading debate on the motion, the lawmaker noted that Nigeria is now seen as the capital of kidnapping in the world, having risen from 475 reported cases in 2011, 500 in 2012 to over 1,500 cases annually.
