We're processing Rohr's work permit - NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has explained that the delay by the home country of new Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr in providing details of his citizenship and other information was responsible for his undertaking his first official assignment with Nigeria as Eagles technical adviser without a valid work permit from the Nigeria authorities.

Reacting to criticisms that the Franco-German coach guarded the Super Eagles to victory over Tanzania during the teams' last AFCON 2017 qualifying match at Uyo, the NFF while attributing the delay in processing the document from his country, Germany, noted that it has commenced the process, adding that the permit would be granted before the team's next match against Zambia.

Some stakeholders have raised concern about the illegality of the German tactician taking charge of the Super Eagles' dead rubber fixture of the Nations Cup qualifier encounter against Tanzania at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, argueing that such a practice cannot be allowed in Rohr's home country of Germany.

NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, who noted that though the other foreign coaches that had handled the Super Eagles in the past worked without work permit but only visa, the federation had fast-tracked the process of securing a permit for the coach to work without any form harassment in Nigeria.

He assured that the NFF will follow all due process to maintain the integrity of Nigeria, adding that nothing would be left unattended to, in its quest for the most valued FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifying ticket. He urged soccer-loving Nigerians not to let it be a distraction to the prayers in ensuring that Nigeria picks the sole group B ticket for Russia 2018.

"It is on record that every other foreign coach that handled the Super Eagles never did so with work permit but only visa. Rohr has a valid visa but the federation has gone the extra mile to ensure that we secure work permit for Rohr.

"We should however, understand that securing work permit is not an easy task. It involves a long process and that is why it was delayed till now. Let me inform you that the process has actually started."
