American bizman commits suicide in Lagos hotel

The body of a 57-year-old US businessman has been found dangling at a hotel in Lekki with preliminary reports revealing that the foreign national identified as Charles Carlson may have committed suicide.

Reports say the hotel staff became apprehensive when the American businessman who was lodged in the inn located on 8, African Line, Lekki Phase 1 did not come down stairs to have breakfast.

After several calls were put through to his intercom, inviting him for breakfast and his mobile phone was not answered, the hotel manager Vincent Onwunke, was notified about the development and he then put a call through to Carlson's business partner (names withheld) who immediately made his way to the hotel.

According to reports, when the door of Carlson's hotel room was forced open, his body was found dangling from a rope tied around his neck by the hotel door.

Carlson's body was later removed from the hotel and taken to a mortuary by policemen from the Maroko Division who were alerted over the development.

Dolapo Badmus, Spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, who confirmed the incident, revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, had ordered that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, for unobtrusive investigation.
