23 Prison Officers dismissed, 11 others suspended over jailbreak


     The Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB) has approved the dismissal of 23 prisons officers over the recent jailbreaks in Abuja and Kogi State.

The sacked personnel included three senior prisons officers in Kuje Medium Security Prison, Abuja and three other senior officers serving in Koton Karfe Prison, Kogi State for their complicity in the es­\cape of prisoners from the two prisons.

The decision was taken at board's emergency meeting held last Thursday

The dismissal letters dated 12th August, 2016 were signed by the Secretary to the Board, Alhaji A A Ibrahim.

According to a statement by Prisons Public Relations Officer, Francis Enobore, the Controller-General of Prisons has approved the dismissal of seven junior prison warders serving in Kuje Medium Security Prison and 10 other junior members of staff serving in Koton Karfe Prison also implicated in the escape saga.

The affected officers are to hand over all government properties in their possession to their immediate superior and proceed accordingly.

In the same vein, the officer in charge of Nsukka Prison, DCP Okonkwo Lawrence and 10 others have been suspended over the recent prisoners' escape from the prison. The suspension is to allow for detailed and uninterrupted investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident in order to facilitate appropriate action by the authorities.
