NSCDC arrests 19 fleeing militants as military continues aerial bombardment of creeks

No fewer than 19 suspected militants have been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, as the aerial bombardment of creeks in the Fatola and Areppo areas of Ogun State by the military continues.
According to reports, some of the suspects were apprehended while fleeing from their camps which are being shelled by the Nigerian military.
The operation has created widespread panic amongst residents; with many of them fleeing from their homes, even though they had been assured of safety by the military.
Security operatives comprising personnel from the police, NSCDC, Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Army, have mounted roadblocks at strategic places that could be used as escape routes by the militants, as the operation continues.
Confirming the arrest, Spokesperson for the NSCDC, Lagos State Command, Kehinde Bada said, "It was a joint operation involving our men, the police, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force. So far, we have arrested 19 suspected militants, some of who fled their base, having realised their game was up."
According to the NSCDC Spokesperson, investigations are ongoing.
