PDP crisis: INEC rejects Sheriff-faction's list of candidates for Edo Gov. Elections

The names submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the Edo Governorship Election by the Sheriff-faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been rejected by the Commission.
On the other hand, the Commission accepted the names of candidates submitted by the Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee.
Both groups submitted the names of their candidates to INEC on Monday.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is the Governorship Candidate for the Makarfi group.
INEC's decision to reject the Sheriff list was based on the fact that the Commission did not monitor the primary that produced the faction's Governorship Candidate, Mr. Matthew Iduoriyekwemwen.
INEC Deputy Director, Publicity and Voters' Education, Mr. Nick Dazang, stated this on Tuesday night.
Dazang said that the Commission had received the names of Governorship candidates from 18 other political parties, apart from the PDP.
He said, "As of this evening, we have received 19 candidates from 19 political parties for the Edo governorship  election.
"These include the candidate of the Makarfi-led faction of the PDP. We received the candidate of the Makarfi-led faction because of the Port Harcourt court judgement plus the fact that we monitored its primaries."
