PDP crisis: Sheriff dares court, presents parallel PDP candidate for Edo Governorship Elections

In defiance of Monday's Port Harcourt High Court judgment, a Certificate of Return has been issued to a parallel Governorship candidate for the forthcoming Edo State Gubernatorial Election, by the embattled Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff.

The certificate was presented to Mr. Matthew Aighuhuenze as the party's flag bearer by Sheriff, after the Chairman of his Delegates Congress Committee, Ahmed Gulak, presented the reports of his primaries to the group in Abuja.

This development comes despite of a Port-Harcourt Federal High Court judgment on Monday, which sacked Sheriff's faction of the party.

The event is a new twist to the leadership tussle the party is grappling with, as the Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee of the PDP also flagged off the campaign of their own candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, for the same election on Monday in Benin City.

According to Sheriff, in the coming days, his faction will flag off a campaign for their own candidate in the same state.

On Monday, Justice Abdullahi Liman of the Port Harcourt Federal High Court 1, reaffirmed the appointment of Ahmed Makarfi as Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, while stating that the Port-Harcourt Convention which sacked Sheriff was legal.

However, his judgment was dismissed by Sheriff who stated that he was headed to the Appeal Court.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja after the Port Harcourt judgment was delivered, Sheriff stated that he remained Chairman of the PDP, until the Appeal Court states otherwise.
