PDP crisis: Sheriff faction issues forms to candidates for fresh Edo State Governorship primary

The faction of the embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has started issuance of nomination forms to persons willing to contest in another Governorship primary election in Edo State, thereby worsening the crisis within the Party.

Speaking to reporters, a lawmaker representing Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency in Edo State, Honourable Ehiozuwa Johnson-Agbonayinma, stated that he had picked the nomination form in Abuja, for another election to be organised by the Sheriff's faction.

Further addressing newsmen later on in Benin City , Agbonayinma stressed that as a lawmaker, he was convinced that the only legally recognised PDP in Nigeria, was the one headed by Senator Sheriff.

A previous Gubernatorial primary had been conducted on June 20 by the Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Commitee, which saw the emergence of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as  flag-bearer for the PDP in Edo State. But that primary had been canceled by Sheriff; who then went ahead to set up  another committee to conduct a new primary.

Members of the PDP have accused Sheriff of working to sabotage the efforts of the party; but Sheriff refuses to step down, insisting that he remains the authentic leader of the People's Democratic Party.
