Saraki and Ekweremadu granted bail

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, and 2 others who were arraigned before an Abuja High Court on Monday, were granted bail by the Presiding Judge, after pleading not guilty to charges of forgery of the Senate Rule Book.

The 4 accused persons filed bail applications, to prevent being detained after the hearing.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Haliru Yusuf, ruled though, that they should be detained at the Kuje Maximum Prison in Abuja pending when they meet their bail conditions.

The accused will have to meet their mail conditions before leaving the High Court, to avoid detention.

The accused are expected to provide two sureties each with evidence of properties in Wuse, Asokoro, Maitama and Garki areas of Abuja.

Saraki; Ekweremadu; a former Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa; and his deputy, Ben Efeturi, are accused of forging the Senate standing rules last year, in order to emerge as Principal Officers.
