Buhari cancels trip to Niger Delta

The President was scheduled to kick off clean-up of Ogoniland today, but he has now canceled the trip. Instead, he is to be represented by Vice President Osinbajo. No reason has yet been given for the cancellation.

The Minister for the Environment, Amina Mohammed, had previously assured Nigerians that President Buhari would personally visit the region, to show his commitment to the clean-up exercise which experts predicts would take about 25years to complete.

Yesterday, a recording was received by IBTimes UK in which a professed member of the militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, had warned the President that he would not return alive if he dared set foot in the Niger Delta. As of yet though, no one knows if Buhari's change of plans is in connection with the threat.
