FG earmarks N12bn for N/East rebuilding

The Federal Government says it will spend N12 billion in 2016 to restore normalcy in the crisis ridden North-East zone.
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma, disclosed this yesterday in Abuja during the launch of a National Human Development Report for Nigeria, 2016 by the United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP).
"In this year's budget, we have set aside N12 billion as part of the contributions towards helping to restore normalcy in the North-East. We also are coordinating the efforts of all donor agencies towards that effort", he said.
According to the minister, the victims support funds and special intervention funds of N500 billion under the current budget are among the measures government is taking to improve the quality of life of Nigerians.
He said the Federal Government has already commenced the implementation of the 2016 Budget, adding that the government is working to ensure the effective utilisation of the N350 billion which was released yesterday for capital projects.
"We are also concerned that the 350 billion released is well spent and go directly to the particular objectives for which it was set aside."
He noted that Nigeria would surely attain its developmental goals. He assured that government would examine every policy put forward in the UNDP's report and see how best it would inform the country's policy making process.
