Youths set ablaze Senator, reps residences in Kano over unfulfilled campaign promises

Angry youths suspected to be political thugs, on Wednesday burnt the residence of Senator Kabiru Gaya in Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State.

The youths also torched the campaign office and poultry farm of a member of the House of Representatives from the area, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud.

An eyewitness told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that the incident occurred around 11am on Wednesday.

According to the witness, the youths were protesting the alleged failure of the two politicians to fulfil the promises they made to them during the electioneering in 2015.

It was learnt that security agents had earlier dispersed the protesting youths, who later regrouped and burnt the senator's house before heading to the campaign office and poultry farm of Mahmoud.

The hoodlums had also attempted to burn the residence of the Chairman of Gaya Local Government Area but were overpowered by security personnel deployed to quell the violence.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, DSP Magaji Majiya, confirmed the incident.

He said that the police were still trying to contain the situation.
"Our men in Gaya are still trying to bring the situation under control but as soon as we get details of the incident, we will keep you posted," he said.
