Nigeria Premier League: FC Ifeanyi Ubah climb to top spot

The Anambra Warriors now have 19 points from 10 matches to displace Enugu Rangers at the top of the ladder. Rangers could only manage a 1-1 draw at MFM FC and have now recorded 18 points.

The hosts left no one in doubt about their mission as they swoop on Plateau United in search of early goals, even as they gave the capacity crowd so much to cheer with their possessive and scintillating play.

Although the visitors put up some resistance against rampaging FC Ifeanyi Ubah strikers, they could hold them only for just 14 minutes into play as they fouled Super Eagles call-up, Bright Onyedikachi in the box for a penalty.
Seka Pascal clinically converted the spot kick and sent the fans into a frenzy celebration.

Attempts by the Warriors to increase the tally before the interval were thwarted by the visitors' defence led by Salomom Junior, who showed gut and determination in their approach to the game.

On resumption of play, the Anambra Warriors went into offensive, pushing their opponents to their half of the pitch as the technical crew brought in Nwosu Oluchukwu and Suleman Mohammed to add bite to the striking force.

Tamen Medrano, who had just been on for five minutes, made it two for FC Ifeanyi Ubah in the 89th minute to put the game beyond redemption for the visitors.

The Warriors have maintained a clean bill at home since the beginning of the season.
An elated chairman of FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Chukwuma Ubah, described the defeat of Plateau Untied as heartwarming as it has pushed his team to the top of the log.

"Naturally, it feels good to pick the maximum points from a tough match such as we had against Plateau United. As a matter of fact, it has been a very tedious for the players in the past weeks playing State FA Cup matches and the league matches without a break. I commend the players for the good result and of course, for winning the Anambra FA Cup again.

"We are not resting on our oars. I am glad we are on top of the table, but we will continue to work hard to ensure we keeping both home and away because we have the team to achieve it, he said.

The state coordinator of the FC Ifeanyi Ubah supporters club, Prince George Iloka thanked God for the victory, noting that the two sides displayed quality game which is not common in the league.

The officiating according to Iloka was fantastic which he pointed out motivated the two sides to put in their best.
