The IGP also ordered the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Department of Operations, Sontoye Wakama, to proceed to Rivers to hold meetings with stakeholders and police officers in the State Command to set the stage for the peaceful conduct of the elections.

In a statement by the Force spokesperson, Olabisi Kolawole, in Abuja on Sunday, the IGP also asked three Commissioners of Police (CPs) to supervise the elections.

The police chiefs are also to oversee the activities of 6,000 conventional policemen and 14 Units of Police Mobile Force personnel (MOPOL) during the elections.
The officers will complement the personnel of the Rivers State Command during the polls.

The statement read in part: "In addition, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Department of Operations, Sontoye Wakama, has also been directed to proceed to Rivers immediately to hold meetings with stakeholders and Police officers in the State Command on the need for peaceful conduct before, during and after the election."

The IGP, however, warned all security details to desist from accompanying their principals and politicians to the polling booths and collation centres during the elections.

Arase assured law abiding electorates of the state of a secured and enabling environment to exercise their franchise and urged them to come out en mass to vote for the candidates of their choice without fear of molestation
