Fred Amata emerged DGN President

The highly contested presidential election of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), which was presided over by Fidelis Duker, Femi Abatan, Paul Apel, Obi Okolie and others, finally came to a wrap as actor cum director Fred Amata of the filmic Amata family, emerged the winner, knocking off his fellow contestants with a 48 votes to 43 votes for Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, 3 votes for Dickson Ireogbu and 7 votes for Kingsley Omoefe.

It could be described as a really big win because Amata had previously aspired for the position alongside Fidelis Duker (Chairman of DGN electoral committee DGNEC) in 2007, but Duker eventually won the contest, and in 2011, Amata contested again with Andy Amenechi, who also defeated him and succeeded Bond Emeruwa.

Fred promised his colleagues before the election that he had what it takes to be the president and will get the guild a befitting secretariat, a functioning constitution and website in his first three months in office. Andy Amenechi who had been the president, relinquished the mantle of leadership on Thursday the 25th of February, in anticipation for the coming leader.

When they were asked before the elections, what they would do if they lost, Fred Amata replied "The four of us will come together to move the Guild forward." The election was held at Tourist Garden Hotels and Resort, Asaba in Delta State on Friday the 26th of February.
Fred Amata of the Amata Dynasty since his big win has been congratulated by top stakeholders in the industry including Ralph Nwadike (AMP president), Paul Obazele (former AMP president), Ibinabo Fiberesima (AGN president), and others
